Play Play Play

One fine day in April, (yeah, I have a lot of catch up to do) Nguyen met us at the park to play. Ethan loved having his daddy surprise him! The older Ethan gets, the more and more excited he is to play with his daddy. It’s so cute. We had a great day of just playing… all day long. At the park and then at home in the back yard. Ethan loves his new shovel and rake. Now he can really help his Daddy in the garden!

Easter Weekend

A little late… but here it is.

We had a really great Easter weekend. My parents were in town and Ethan loved playing with his Gigi and Granddaddy! We had Easter basket and egg hunts on Saturday and Resurrection Rolls on Sunday. I thought Ethan would enjoy finding the eggs and putting them in the basket, but he was not at all interested. After putting one or two in, he just dumped them out and went on to something else! Maybe next year!

Resurrection rolls are no new thing, but in case you’ve not heard of them, I will explain. Start with a large marshmallow which represents Christ, pure and sinless. Unroll refrigerator cressant rolls and separate each triangle. Take a cressant roll triangle and wrap up the marshmallow representing Christ’s body in cloth. Then dip the roll in melted butter, then a cinnamon and sugar mixture to represent the oils and spices prepared for his body. Bake according to cressant roll directions. Wait 3 days, or about 15 minutes in the oven. See the surprise inside the roll and celebrate that Christ is risen! Ethan is a little young to really understand it, but I thought it would be good to start the tradition anyway. And they are super yummy! Also, we got a little potty for Ethan. He has been talking about it a lot, so I thought I would just see what he would do with one. You can see what stage we are in this process by the picture below. We have made a little progress since that picture was taken, but not much!

Pancakes

Ethan’s new joy is to help me in the kitchen. He loves to scoop, pour and stir whatever he can get his hands on. He also experiments with scooping then pouring on the floor and stirring with his hands! Many messes occur around here all for the sake of exploration. I am always trying to teach him to correct way to do things, but find that messes are inevitable when little hands are learning new things. We have started making pancakes more regularly since he seems to eat a better breakfast after he has helped to make it. I’m trying to think of more things that he could help me make in the mornings. Do you have any ideas?

A Gardening We Will Go

This year we have actually planted a garden! We have talked about it for years and now we actually have room to have one. On the menu this year (so far): flame, concord, and manuka grapes, blueberries, kaffir lime, yellow squash, bell peppers, mini bell peppers, tomatoes, Thai basil, thyme, spearmint, pineapple mint, Vietnamese coriander, and Thai Bird peppers. Yes, we are quite ambitious to try all this our first go around. Nguyen has a much better track record for successfully growing plants than I do, so we are optimistic about the outcome. For some reason I have a knack for forgetting how long its been since I last watered them. Thankfully, I don’t have this problem when it comes to caring for the human variety!
